2002 API Honorary Fellow Award Sidney A. Goldblatt, MD
Sidney Goldblatt, MD was a pathologist, entrepreneur, and pioneer in healthcare information systems. He was board-certified in multiple sub-specialties of Pathology, including AP/CP, Hematopathology, Transfusion Medicine, Medical Microbiology, and Forensic Pathology. After graduating from Temple University School of Medicine, fulfilling residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, and a research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Goldblatt served 40 subsequent years as the Director for MMC’s Laboratory and Pathology Residency Program and on the medical staffs of Memorial Medical Center, Meyersdale Medical Center, Miners Medical Center and Windber Medical Center.
Since 1965, Dr. Goldblatt worked to revolutionize and improve medical data technology. He developed the world’s first and largest lab-based information system and co-founded Sunquest Information Systems, which earned him Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997. He also founded MolecularDx, an in-house laboratory for ForensicDX. Among his recent projects, Dr. Goldblatt launched a family of next-generation healthcare companies, all with the goal of improving efficiency and outcomes for doctors, patients, and communities. For these reasons, the Association for Pathology Informatics selected Dr. Goldblatt for its 2002 API Honorary Fellow Award for his distinguished achievements and expansive contributions to the field of Pathology Informatics.
